Rudston Bowls Club

Rudston Bowls Club was founded in 1982 and a Bowling Green built almost entirely by, and funded by, village people.  It has its own rooms within the adjacent Pavilion which was built for the benefit of all sporting activities on the Village Playing Field.

Playing Flat Green Bowls, the club runs a team in the Driffield & District Evening Triples League – a competition based on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the Summer season (roughly early May to early August). There is also a team in the Wednesday afternoon Wolds Triples League.

Individual players can enter various local area competitions, but all members are encouraged to enter Club competitions.  There are also occasional Sunday Friendly matches against other East Yorkshire clubs, which are usually pleasant and enjoyable occasions, followed as they are by afternoon tea provided by members of the home club.

However, in common with most other Bowls clubs, Rudston is always on the look-out for new players.  Not surprisingly for a small village, the club already has a number of non-resident players, and the Secretary (details below) would welcome interest from any others. 

For resident members in Winter months there is a weekly Wednesday afternoon Indoor Short-mat session in the Village Hall.

The outdoor green obviously needs a lot of attention, and this provided by Mr. Daniels (see below) and a regular team of fellow-member helpers.  The pavilion is given an annual “Spring clean” at the beginning of the season, when lady members may be joined by a “husband or two”, and everyone can lend a hand.

Annual membership fee is currently £25 but anyone can “try” the game by arrangement before committing to anything.  Flat-soled shoes are appropriate, both indoor and out, and bowls (also known as “woods”) could be borrowed from the club before thinking of purchasing your own equipment.
